Change Summary
The most significant change in this release is the third-generation automatic calibration algorithms.
The original calibration algorithms were designed for accuracy using the early T41 hardware. The original T41 hardware had relatively loose tolerances compared to recent T41-2 hardware modules. Thus the calibration algorithms had to “throw a wide net” in order to capture the optimal settings for the calibration of the receiver, transmitter undesired sideband, and carrier suppression. This necessitated wide, slow sweeps which are time consuming.
Fast forward to the modules of today with tigher tolerance components, instrumentation amplifiers, and factory wound transformers, and the target has gotten much smaller. The sweep span can be significantly reduced which allows for a much faster process to find the optimum calibration parameters.
The calibration process is demonstrated in this youtube video:
There are also miscellaneous bug fixes and some internal efficiency improvements. The EVE display module continues to impress! The display code sort of steps off to the side and gets out of the way. It makes changes to other aspects of the firmware so much easier!
